Misc. Software
DisplayCAL is free software (for Windows, Mac, and possibly also Linux) for Monitor calibration, can be used along with SpyderColor hardware. https://displaycal.net/IThe software is extremely geeky, but if you can push your way past all that (you may end up using mostly the default settings, anyway) it's got a great rep as being way better than the software that comes along with the colorimeters themselves.
Lightzone, a free alternative to Photoshop and Lightroom that also contains features allowing you to calculate the dynamic range of your camera. http://lightzoneproject.org/ Tutorial videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xq1tyuZXbpo Internal tutorials and documentation: http://lightzoneproject.org/node/35
